Twee maanden na de gewelddadige ontruiming van het Maagdenhuis en het aftreden van Louise Gunning worden er grote stappen gezet om op de lange termijn van de UvA weer een gezonde universiteit te maken. Er worden twee commissies ingesteld die de problemen aangaande de financiën en het gebrek aan inspraak van de academische gemeenschap in kaart gaan brengen en die voorstellen zullen ontwikkelen om deze problemen op te lossen. Echter, terwijl wij werken aan een betere universiteit, zet het universiteitsbestuur de koers die voor de protesten is ingezet onverminderd voort.
Docenten dreigen hun baan te verliezen, departementen worden opgedragen vakken te schrappen en de nieuwe collectieve arbeidsovereenkomst (cao) van medewerkers wordt ontweken. De FGw dreigt de banen van 120 medewerkers te schrappen. Dit betekent dat er voor 32 % van de flexwerkers straks geen werk meer is aan deze faculteit.
De bezuinigingen die nu plaats vinden, zijn het resultaat van eenbeleid dat er op gericht was om grote vastgoedprojecten te kunnen financieren. De UvA kocht riskante financiële producten, waardoor de tekorten nu oplopen. Minister Jet Bussemaker gaf 19 mei toe dat bezuinigingen het gevolg zijn van het vastgoedbeleid van het College van Bestuur.

Humanities Rally vindt dat docenten en studenten nooit het slachtoffer mogen worden van megalomane vastgoedprojecten. Om die reden is er aankomende vrijdag een demonstratie. Wij willen dat het universiteitsbestuur afziet van de bezuinigingen die er toe leiden dat docenten hun baan verliezen. Wij eisen dat het CvB verantwoordelijkheid neemt om de kwaliteit van het onderwijs en onderzoek te behouden. Wij roepen daarom iedereen op om komende vrijdag mee te demonstreren om te voorkomen dat jouw favoriete docent straks op straat staat!

Joint statement with De Nieuwe Universiteit , calling out for a demo on Friday the 12th.
Two months after the brutal Maagdenhuis eviction and the resignation of Louise Gunning, bigs steps have been made to work up to a healthier university in the future. Two commissions have been put into place in charge of the problems the UvA faces in financing and the lack of student and worker participation in the decision making process. They will be mapping the problems and will write concrete proposals on how to tackle these issues. Meanwhile though, the university board is still carrying out their own agenda, that has not changed since the protests.
Teachers face lay-offs, departments are ordered to shut down courses and the new collective labour agreement of flexworkers is being cirumvented. At the Humanities faculty the board is threatening to cut the jobs of 120 workers. this means that 32% of all flexworkers on this faculty will be out of a job next year.
The reasons for these cuts are the usual: policy to enable large scale real estate speculation. The UvA purchased some financial investments of great risk, did not tell anyone, nor did they expect to lose money on this. Even Minister of education Jet Bussemaker told the media on the 19th of May that the budget cuts were indeed a follow up on the real estate speculation.

Humanities Rally thinks teachers and students should never be the victim of selfish real estate projects. Therefore a demonstration is organized this Friday: we want to board to stop all budget cuts that lead to teachers losing their jobs. We demand that the Executive Board takes responsibility to uphold the quality of education. We therefore call upon everyone to join us in a demonstration this Friday to prevent it from happening that your favorite teachers will be fired!
